Functional description
The PC-TOR range is composed by three boards : PC-TOR 24, PC-TOR 48 and PC-TOR 120. They differ from their number of digital lines. They enables to connect the computer to a peripheral which needs a command of logic type. The boards are composed by 3, 6 or 15 parallel ports of 8 bits each and by a timer.
TTL Input/Output Interface
The TTL digital input/output lines are available on one, two or five HE10 50 pins connectors for flat ribbon cable. The front panel connector PC-TOR 24 is directely accessible at the back of the PC. The PC-TOR 48 and the PC-TOR 120 have their connectors regularly spaced inside the board. It is possible to connect one or various flat ribbon thanks to the space located on the maintaining square of the board. The programming is compatible with a PIO 8255 of Intel (in mode 0) i.e the direction of the ports are determined by a control word. The problems due to this component are eliminated :
when the control word is programmed the output ports are initialised with the written value previously. At the contrary, the 8255 standard initialises the outputs to 0 which can cause initialisation problems of the commanded systems.
unlike the 8255 the control word can be read.
The direction of the lines (input or output) is programmed by 8 bits ports (except for the port C in 2 x 4). The TTL ports are marked A, B and C.
Output configuration
All the outputs are bufferised by some 245 and allows an important fan-out by line. Thanks to these characteristics and the wiring pin-layout this board is compatible OPTO22. It allows to command a large number of external modules to the PC available on the market. For the command of external interfaces by opened collectors, you just have to interchange the 245 corresponding by a 641 or 642.
When you power up the board all the lines are in input. In order not to actuate an external interface in output the supports are disposed on each port to have the possibility to place resistances networks in pull-up and pull-down to obtain the desired level in output.
To have a fan-out superior to a 74LS 245 you just have to change of technology (for instance : 74 AC 245) by informing us when you order the product.
The line 50 of the connectors can be connected to GND (standard) o to +12V of the PC by jumper (no protected against the short-circuits).
Timer module
The timer module uses a timer 8254 of Intel. A base clock is available on the board : oscillator of 4 MHz. A jumper area enables to cascade the counters to trigger interrupts o an internal counting.
Addressing
Interrupts possible by each lines PC3 of each connector and by the timer.
Addressing switchable on the board by 32 addresses blocks in the I/O space of the PC. IBM 8 bits bus.

With a 74AC 245 buffer :
High input level (VIH) : 3,15 Vmin.
Low input level (VIL) : 1,35 Vmax.
High ouput level (VOH) : 4,4 Vmin.
Low ouput level (VOL) : 0,1 Vmax.
Maximum output voltage high state (IOH) : -75 mA (V = 3,85 V).
Maximum output voltage low state (IOL) : 75 mA (V = 1,65 V).
